I decided I had had enough 'human interest' for the morning after 82's departure from Ashland, and moved north to Ruther Glen to the Penola Road crossing where I had last visited in March. No crowd of people to contend with, just a crowd of gnats that found my head endlessly fascinating while I waited by the tracks.
At 8:48, the tired old mechanical crossing bell repeated to my ears what my eyes had already seen in the distance - Q174 was approaching, FAST. ES40DCs 5389, 5386, and 5283 did the honors on the head end.
