One of many recent finds diving near and in the sea. Pandora is completely unlike anything we have explored before. Bacterial straws and webs drape from nearly every service, and with each exhalation bacterial growths raining down.
Natalie L Gibb and Vincent Rouquette-Cathala made the first two dives into Sistema Pandora on June 29th during a short scouting trip, and Steve Bogaerts spent a few days in early July adding thousands of feet of line to cave and connecting the two entrances.
The cave averages between 50 and 80 feet, and is characterized by relatively low-flow conditions, hydrogen sulfide in the shallow areas, and speleothems covered in intricate bacterial patterns.
This video is taken primarily for helmet-mounted GoPros, so please excuse the shakiness etc. We made a video out of what we could! It's not the best but I hope you enjoy it!
