Michael Sata was earlier this evening sworn in as Zambia's new president. Sata a former opposition leader and fierce critic of Chinese investment in the country, won in an upset poll victory that ushered in a smooth handover of power in Africa's biggest copper producer. Zambia's incumbent president Rupia Banda has officially conceded defeat and urged his supporters to acknowledge the results peacefully. Sata had unsuccessfully run for president on three previous instances.
