These are Egyptian walking onions also known as tree onions, top onions and winter onions. I planted these early last winter and they have been growing ever since. They're one of the first things that come up in the garden and can be eaten as green onions or you can also use the small (hot/spicy) bulbs in cooking or as a natural pesticide.
Instead of making seeds they make bulbs at the top and they become very top heavy which causes them to flop over with the bulbs seeding themselves wherever they land making new plants. They can literally walk across your garden if you let them. I plan to cut the bulbs off and plant them where I want them. They are a GREAT addition to any garden :)
