U.W. "Walt" Hopson
April 4, 1928 - January 11, 2010
My Dad always suggested that I make a list. Here is a good one:
WWII Veteran, Rocket Builder (Apollo, Saturn V, SNAP, Atlas, Titan), Fighter, Dreamer, Hero, Writer, Poet, Dog Lover, Inventor, Genius, Storyteller, Fixer of All Things Unbroken or Demolished (hearts included)... He invented the first weed whacker, the first seat belts and air conditioning systems for cars, and designed and built my first little house. He loved the rain and margaritas. He loved his family. He gave me the ability to dream and believe in magic, and told me stories about the Moon. Together, we founded TheAeroSpace.org with the intention of honoring men and women of Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) who served their country honorably and courageously during the Cold War and Race to Space. Please touch down there to learn more.

Dad prepared for his last journey with the help of his family (ground control crew). On the long rainy nights together before launch, we'd tell more stories about the Moon and speculate about the astronauts being pretty afraid of what their trip into the unknown may hold. It kept us brave. We tested our communications systems, making sure our connections would last long after launch. We made plans to keep orbiting each others' hearts until we could find a way to be together again... and we are always together. Until then, Daddy Walt Boy, here's to you - You will always be my diamond in the sky. Mission Control's Happy Rock and Brave Rock are keeping us happy and brave, but we're waiting on Rocket Man to return. Hurry up, would ya?
