Once we replaced all the outdated, uninsulated leaking ducting, we then focused on the thermal protection. The knee walls were first addressed by replacing the missing batt insulation that was originally stuffed between the wall joists. We then installed a reinforced version of Thermal Control Membrane (TCM), which is a multi-layered VDC coated membrane with the lowest emissivity in the industry and the highest thermal performance. After the TCM was installed a 16" German attic fan was mounted on the South side of the house to remove the unwanted waste heat generated by these products. The previous high summer bill on this 1600sq foot home was over $600. Our goal is to reduce that by 50%. Stop back for details. This section edited 12/28/09
