Mayor Reads: Santa is Coming to Edmonton

Mayor Reads December episode fits with Christmas.

These videos are one of the ways that Edmonton’s Mayor Don Iveson connects to community. As a father of 2 young children and a champion for literacy as well as our public library - he understands the value of sharing books. He has countless invitations to read to school groups but can't possibly accept them all. In an effort to “share our Mayor” and connect to children (and adults) through books we have created a project called Mayor Reads. Monthly episodes are based on books which may be related to seasonal themes or city issues that would appeal to our intended audience of elementary students and families. We are so pleased to have the support of the Edmonton Public Library for this project as they are happily “sharing” with the production and promotion of these videos.

Santa is Coming to Edmonton was chosen for the seasonal nature and we love the fact that the book has been “personalized” for our city. It’s fun to see Santa travel past some of our Edmonton landmarks and hear him mention specific communities. I wonder if he noticed all the 19 branches of the Edmonton Public Library on his flight. EPL is a generous giver just like Santa! Any music, movie, video game, magazine or book can be on your wish list and EPL can ensure to make your wish come true! All you need is your library card.
