Interviewed at his home in Carolina County, Piedmont blues master John Cephas discusses his early years in Virginia, his musical influences and experiences, the Piedmont guitar style, and his travels around the world performing his distinctive music with partner Phil Wiggins. Cephas received the coveted National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1989, an award recognizing master artists who preserve cultural legacies in music, dance, and crafts.
