Nardi Steverink and Gert Stulp are both part of the research group FLAG (Family Life course and aging group). This group researches loneliness, healthy aging and the influence of the environment on important choices people make. People are strongly influenced by family, friends and colleagues.
Even when it comes to the desire to have children. Gert Stulp's research focuses on the influence of the social network on this desire to have children.
The influence of your social environment is an important factor in healthy ageing. According to Nardi Steverink, social contacts are just as important as a healthy lifestyle. With the Grip and Glans method, the elderly learn to take initiative, to stay positive and to build social contacts. This helps, because research shows that older people experience less loneliness and higher well-being after the course.
This film was made as part of the celebration of 80 years of Sociology at the University of Groningen - October 12, 2018.
