Hi, this is Joli Vollers with the Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources with some tips on how to operate an ATV safely.

Always wear protective riding gear. At a minimum riders should wear a DOT-approved helmet, eye protection, over-the-ankle boots, and pants. Helmets should be replaced at least every 5 years or after any impact to the helmet. Helmets should fit snug. You should not be able to move your head around inside of the helmet. If the helmet is too big, it will not protect the rider's head.

To sign up for an ATV safety education course, go to iowadnr.gov and learn to operate that ATV safely.
