A growing trend among American is Vegan diet where they are giving up animal- based food products for other healthy food options. Vegans in America are eating including soy and wheat glutton based meat and dairy alternatives. Experts say the products contain additional vitamins and minerals and are equivalent to real meat and dairy products. Also, this trend is opening avenues for new kinds of products for food manufacturers and new ways of marketing for grocery stores.

This report includes interviews from Dietitian Rebecca Sctritchfield, Dr. Ida Bergstrom, PETA founder Ingrid Kirkwood, music composer Moby (vegan), activists from Compassion over Killing, Whole Foods Marketing Manager Fadia Jaudat and Vegetarian Chef Rachel Brummit.

Although proponents of vegetarian and vegan diet point out the harms of animal products, experts say they are not bad for health if consumed in moderation. They also say that a vegan diet is only healthy if it is balanced and contains all the nutrients needed for a healthy body.
