Blaise Agüera y Arcas has a broad background in computer science, applied math, and the humanities and has worked in a range of fields including computational neuroscience and computational history. In 2001, he received worldwide attention for his analysis of the printing technology used by Johann Gutenberg. He joined Microsoft in 2006 when the start-up he founded, Seadragon, was acquired by Live Labs. Shortly after the acquisition, Blaise directed a team, in collaboration with Microsoft Research and the University of Washington, that led to the public launch of Photosynth several months later. Today he is a Distinguished Engineer at Microsoft, working in multiple roles as a technical and business leader and as a designer and inventor.
