In November 1931, in one of the first games ever played at the Brisbane Cricket Ground at Woolloongabba, Don Bradman was dismissed for a duck, after having had the bat knocked out of his hands by a tearaway Queensland fast bowler from the Barambah Reserve. Eddie Gilbert lived his life under the draconian Protection of Aboriginals Act, and died tragically in the Goodna Hospital for the Insane. I imagined Eddie in that hellish place, trying to piece together images of his former life.
