Taking a trip to a WalMart store in Weslaco turned into a financial nightmare for an elderly man.

Weslaco police said the man left his wallet on the counter but a Bad Samaritan came along and took it for himself.

Investigators told Action 4 News that it was all caught on camera.

The last few weeks haven't been easy for the victim.

Weslaco police said he had quite a bit of a cash inside that wallet along with his driver's license, credit cards, and social security card.

Police are hoping this surveillance video taken on the day of the theft will help identify the man who allegedly took the wallet.

Investigators said the victim set it down as he paid for his items and forgot it.

They said the suspect was standing directly behind the victim, took notice immediately placed the wallet in his bag when the victim walked away.

Weslaco Police Officer J.P. Rodriguez said the man is now facing a theft charge.

Rodriguez said cases like this often lead up to other charges because the person who steals the wallet either uses the debit or credit card.

Some even going as far as selling the social security number.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Weslaco Crime Stoppers at (956) 968-TIPS.
