Let's make Korean rice cake soup on New Year's Day! It's a delicious, filling soup made of disc-shaped rice cakes in a clear broth. Full recipe on my website: https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/tteokguk

Haitian people make a special pumpkin soup called Soup Joumou. It was established on the day of independence. it has ripe pumpkin (no seeds), spices, beef(goat or pork), rigatoni pasta, carrots and potatoes. It should be on the spicy side but not too spicy. Love being from a Haitian/Dominican background

Linda Vang - This is a video remake, part of my project to update my older videos that were flagged for the music that I used. It also gives me a chance to improve the dish, so the recipe is a bit more developed and uses less salt than my original one.

In Italy we eat lentils with cotechino and tortellini in broth for New year eve :-)

Pork and black eye peas. We are not allowed to eat chicken since it is believed you will be "scratching" for money all year

A new years dish in my culture, huh... well, my parents from East Germany normally prepare a carp. A special carp (Neujahrskarpfen) normally cooked in a vinegary broth which makes the skin turn beautifully blue. Before that is made, my mother always looked for scales on the skin, round, pretty scales of the fish and dried them. On the next day, New Years Day, Jan 1st, she will give me and my sisters the scales which are now dry and hard. If theyre round and shiny, theyre said to bring money and good luck. Youre supposed to keep them in your wallet. This tradition is unknown to many other parts of germany, but very prominent in the eastern parts.

Black eyed peas as a symbol for coins and greens (Collard, Mustard, Spinach or Kale) as a symbol for green bills. Eating this on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day brings prosperity and wealth. We cook it with onions and bacon, either the peas and greens separately or mix them together. Eating it with rice is yummy. This year I am going to make your soup!
