In an Australian television news report, a quality-of-life study finds that short periods of daily meditation can significantly improve a person's mental health.

Meditation appears to give people a protective effect. Those who have been meditating for two years are more than ten percent better off than non-meditators.

Those who do not drink or smoke had even better mental health.
