Once these Rose-ringed Parakeets (Psittacula krameri) were exotic birds that were taken to Europe as pets. At some point however several of these birds managed to escape, and they went to live in urban environments. Brussels is one of the many new habitats of these parakeets, who thrive and rise in numbers as they colonize many parks. The Elisabeth parc in the Koekelberg district in Brussels has some trees in which every night more than a thousand of them gather for nighttime. This is a deceased female. This close-up of the cadaver shows their beautiful green plumage.
