Sra. Auri Carrasco Elespuru, of Peruvian insurance company La Positiva, highlights the important role that distribution channels play in a successful microinsurance project. The company is one of the most prominent insurers in Peru with over 2 million clients and brokers across the country. An innovation grant was awarded to La Positiva in 2008 to help them design and market microinsurance products for farmers and their families through a partnership with rural water associations. Sra. Elespuru explains how this strategic alliance enabled La Positiva to reach individuals who would otherwise be unreachable for insurers. She shows how civil society organisations can be better placed to manage the delivery of microinsurance, and thereby offer a path to sustainability and profitability for microinsurers.
