Is Eating Too Much Fruit Bad? - as part of the expert series by GeoBeats.

It is definitely possible to eat too much of anything, and fruit is not an exception to that, so you can overeat fruit just like you can overeat anything: unhealthy foods, healthy foods. With fruit, it has calories, it has sugar in it, and it is not good to get too many calories or sugar no matter what the source.

So a healthy portion of fruit is anywhere between a cup to 2 1/2 cups per day or between 2 to 5 servings. A serving of a fruit would be like a small apple or pear, a half of a banana, a quarter cup of dried fruit, or a half cup to 3/4 cup of fresh berries. And so the danger with fruit is really when you are consuming it in juice form or sometimes dried form because dried fruits oftentimes, although they are a healthy option, can be loaded with extra sugar, so you want to be careful and read the label and make sure there is no added sugar or corn syrup in the ingredients. And then, of course, watch your portion.

And then juices: a lot of people think juices are really healthy and they are, but only in very small quantities. I know smoothies are very popular and juice drinks and things like that, and you can just get so many calories and so much sugar from those in addition to the healthful antioxidants and things. But really 4 ounces of juice is enough to get as many vitamins and minerals as you need, and any more than that and you are just getting too much sugar.
