Rapid heating of the Mackenzie River plume in 2008. This animation provides an illustration of the rapid warming of the plume under clear-sky conditions. The movement of large ice floes southward in the Beaufort Sea from the region of the Canadian archipelago toward the plume axis can be seen. Ice floes involved in the plume are visibly melted. The rapid warming has potential impacts for the seasonal melt/freeze cycle of Arctic Sea Ice.
