I have finally managed to update my Netduino firmware and re-write the old code so it works under .Netmf v4.2
Having done that I moved the LED display to a second Netduino and sent status updates to it using UDP messages.
Next I attached a Raspberry Pi with Wifi dongle. The Pi receives the UDP from the Netduino on the buggy via wired ethernet, and re-sends it on the Wifi to the second Netduino that is connected to my router using a wired connection.

Sounds simple - but it was a lot of hard work.
Especially the RaspberryPi which is as user friendly as a cornered rat.
