US Vice President Joe Biden said on Thursday the US government had offered to assist Ukraine in determining the cause of a Malaysian airliner's crash along the Ukraine-Russia border.
Mr Biden said he had been in contact with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and offered the support of the US National Transportation and Safety group and various experts.
He said a US team of experts will soon be on the ground in Ukraine to "see if we can get to the bottom of this".
The plane, carrying 298 passengers, crashed in the village of Hrabove, eastern Ukraine, on Thursday.
It was en-route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and appeared to have broken up before impact with the burning wreckage scattered over a wide area.
Both the Ukraine government and pro-Russia separatists fighting in the region have denied any responsibility for downing the aircraft.
US intelligence authorities believe a surface-to-air missile brought the plane down but were still working on who fired the missile and whether it came from the Russian or Ukrainian side of the border, a US official said.
