Using Social Bookmarking to Facilitate Classroom & Group Learning

Social bookmarking is a maturing are of the social aspect of the internet; however it is not commonly used in the higher education classroom. Social bookmarking sites such as Delicious, StumbleUpon, Reddit, Technorati, and CiteULike are free tools to allow the management of Websites, journal articles, and other online publications through "tagging." These tools can allow a new and quicker dialog between faculty and students, as well as among the groups themselves. The concept of social bookmarking, the pros and cons of each tool, and how these tools can be incorporated into the classroom to facilitate learning and discussion, will be discussed.
