"Traveling the Sunshine State with his cameras, John Moran seeks his vision of natural Florida...."Amnesia Springs: Florida's Forgotten Fountains of Youth"
John Moran has been photographing the springs of Florida for the past 30 years. His heart is broken when he looks around and sees a Florida he no longer recognizes as his home. And so he is producing a museum exhibition and book project, pairing contemporary views with pictures from his personal archive (and state historical archives), to create a then-and-now narrative of Florida's springs and the changes we've all seen. Timed to coincide with the height of the state's Viva 500 quincentennial commemoration of the arrival of Ponce de Leon, Amnesia Springs: Florida's Forgotten Fountains of Youth will debut in the spring of 2013 at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville before traveling to venues statewide. The book of the same title is on track to be published by University Press of Florida in 2014. The Amnesia Springs project seeks to inspire public participation in the increasingly urgent conversation about the fundamental role of water in shaping and defining Florida's future.
