Each year the Project Management Institute (PMI) honours a few members who have made outstanding contributions to developing the profession of project management. In October 2002 David Hillson, The Risk Doctor, was awarded the PMI Distinguished Contribution Award for his work in promoting project management in Europe, as well as his sustained contribution to developing the field of risk management. The citation also mentioned David's ground-breaking work in producing the risk management chapter of "A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK®) 2000 Edition", which presented a completely revised risk process reflecting current international best practice. Dr Hillson received the award from the PMI Board at a ceremony in San Antonio, Texas.
