This video outlines the difference between a timer and a meter water softener to help you decide which one you need.

A timer softener will repeat a cleaning cycle at a preset time whether you use a little or a lot of water in your home.

A meter softener will only start a cleaning cycle after a preset amount of water has been used in your home making it more efficient.
A timer version uses approximately 140 litres of water per regen and a metered version uses approximately 50 litres per regeneration, depending on setting and water pressure.
