Why do some people cut corners when it comes to following an established procedure or safety practice? The failure to follow an established "Standard Operating Procedure" is more complex than a snap judgment on the person's attitude (lazy, careless, unprofessional, rebellious.). We tend to assume that when someone else fails to follow procedure they are simply not a conscientious employee. But is this true? This presentation will examine why people choose to violate procedures and how employers can proactively plan for and reduce the health and safety risks associated with human factors.
