TV9 - Burnt woman dies, husband arrested....!

Asha, 21, who was set ablaze by her husband Venugopal, died at the Victoria Hospital on Wednesday.

Their toddler daughter Chandana died on the spot when Venugopal burnt her on Tuesday morning at their house in K R Puram.

Asha had given a declaration before her death in the presence of a tahsildar on Tuesday against Venugopal and his family members. She had alleged that her husband had set her and her daughter on fire at the behest of his family members after she dragged him to court over domestic violence. K R Puram Police arrested Venugopal, a civil contractor, at Kadugodi on Wednesday afternoon.

State Women's Commission chairperson C Manjula visited Victoria Hospital. Various women's organisations also protested in front of Victoria Hospital demanding a through probe into the incident and the re-opening of the case of Venugopal's first wife Ashwini's death which was recorded as a suicide. Ashwini is the sister of Asha.

Bus mows down youth

An 18-year-old student, who was on his way to attend tuition classes, was mowed down by a speeding KSRTC bus at Shivashankara Circle near Makkala Koota early Wednesday morning.

Mohammed Atiq Ahmed, a resident of Telecom Layout, Vijaynagar, was riding his two-wheeler when the accident occurred.

The KSRTC bus was on its way to Kanakapura. Ahmed had completed his II PU and was preparing for the common entrance test. Bus driver Chinnagiri Gowda, 49, has been arrested.

Cricket bettor held

The Central Crime Branch special investigation cell raided a residence at Pattegarapalya on Tuesday and arrested Vijaykumar, 34, for indulging in cricket betting. A television, a mobile phone and other equipment, and Rs one lakh in cash were also seized from the house.

Housewife ends life

A 26-year-old woman was found dead at her house in Kalyan Nagar on Wednesday morning. Chandra Layout Police said Shyamala had allegedly hanged herself from the ceiling fan as she was depressed over her three-year-old son suffering from a urinary tract disorder.

Shyamala was married to Gangadhar, an accountant at a private firm. Their son Chintu was operated upon three times at a private hospital. However, doctors insisted that he should be operated on again. Depressed over not being able to foot the hospital bill, Shyamala took the extreme step after leaving her son in a nearby nursery, police said.

Youth found dead

A teenager was found dead with grievous head injuries in a gutter near Channasandra Underpass early Wednesday morning. The dead, identified as Amir, 18, a resident of MTS Layout, Kengeri, was working as a technician at a construction site in Ramamurthy Nagar. Ramamurthy Nagar police have registered a case of unnatural death.
