Saxophonist Donny McCaslin talks about his work with Maria Schneider and his affinity for the arranging of Gil Evans. He also talks about how living in New York City has informed his playing. This In Person with JazzTimes interview took place backstage inside Fort Adams at the 2012 Newport Jazz Festival, where McCaslin performed with the large ensembles of both Schneider and Ryan Truesdell (doing the music of Gil Evans). Interview by Lee Mergner. Video by Melissa Mergner. Audio by Jen Kim. Special thanks to Carolyn McClair, Melanie Nanez, Dan Melnick, Deborah Ross and the staff of George Wein Productions.
