This pitcher is demonstrating Mike Marshall's extreme cross panel drill. The pitcher is standing 180 feet away from the backstop of this field and throwing into it. As you can see, the pitcher for this drill is just using his arm and is not using his body to accelerate the ball. The purpose of this drill is to build the arm up as strong as possible by forcing the pitcher to inwardly rotate the shoulder more and more. The key to this drill is the inward rotation of the shoulder. The more, and faster inward rotation, the more the pitcher can get on the throw.
