The career of director Frank Capra from his early years with Hal Roach, the war years and the creation of his Why We Fight Series, and his post war films until his retirement. In a classroom interview conducted by professor Humphrey Leynse at Washington State University on March 8th, 1977 (and edited two months later for local TV broadcast), Capra discusses the rationale behind the Why We Fight Series and his difficulty in making documentaries. Capra offers a message to young people today on his life experiences and his belief in the saleability of sentiment and heroism of the underdog.

In 2017, video and audio clips from this interview were used in the Netflix-produced documentary series "Five Came Back."

The video was recorded from a 1977 U-Matic video (call number 3/4" 10054), and due to the condition of the tape it accelerates and decelerates slightly at a few points during this recording.
