Russian folk group Koleso St Petersburg perform in English 'The Closed Door' from John Farndon's musical 'Anya'. Anya sings a song about Russian women. How a Russian woman's heart is like a cottage in winter. How if she does not love you, all you will see is a barred door, and you will be left outside in the cold, seeing nothing but blank walls, while you freeze. But once she lets you in you will find a warm hearth, a place of light and joy, with thick walls to keep out the winter, a place of protection and warmth. A place of strength, love and care forever. Louis is listening, and feels this song is for him.
You stand in the cold with your cap in your hand The chill of rejection you can't understand As winter enfolds you and pierces your skin And your heart freezes slowly then snaps Outside the close door.
You gave her your love; yes, you showed her your pain But all she gave back was a smile of disdain You sank to your knees as she looked down her nose And she turned away quietly to leave you Outside the closed door.
But for the man who is lucky and finds the right path Once she lets him in, he will find a warm hearth And strong walls to protect him -- a place full of joy He'll be safe behind the closed door.
Outside through the dark night you stumble alone You curse all the fates for the cruelty they've shown As your limbs start to quiver and your heavy eyes droop A shaft of light spills on the road From an opening door...
You're the man who is lucky, you've found the right path Now she's let you in, you will find a warm hearth And strong walls to protect you -- a place full of joy You'll be safe behind the closed door.
