On Tuesday March 20, 2012 the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction held a workshop entitled "Protecting Canadian homeowners and communities from wildfire in a changing climate" at the Toronto Board of Trade on behalf of Natural Resources Canada to talk about the increasing challenges surrounding the issue of wildfire, and begin a dialogue on possible solutions. The workshop explored what is known about the wildfire threat, laid out strategies currently under development in both Canada and the United States, and pointed out key shifts that may become important moving forward. Speakers spoke about the emerging wildfire situation and threats, insurance considerations related to wildfire, and current and potential solutions to protect homes and communities.
