This video, taken on June 15, 2013 near Tyler Forks in the Penokee HIlls, highlights a walk to the site of exploratory drilling for a large, open-pit taconite mine in the Bad River watershed. The three-mile walk through hardwood forest and wetlands emphasized the beauty of the Lake Superior Uplands and the threat to the water quality of communities downstream. As a Bad River tribal member, I am particularly concerned about the impact of the mine on our ancient wild rice beds, which are very sensitive to sulfates.
