Every Friday evening, Master Drummer Frisner Augustin teaches traditional Haitian drumming in Brecher Hall at Hunter College. Students learn how to play the parts for styles ranging from the sacred heartbeat of Vodou to the street grooves of Carnival and Rara to the cadences of Konbit (a countryside work party). Augustin's students recently performed in The Vagina Monologues and for a benefit for Partners in Health at Joe's Pub.

We thank Jeremy Robins of Ibis Productions for this video.

The class is supported, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Look for time, place, and fee details at http://www.makandal.org/calendar.html.
