Francesco Albanese (1912-2005) was from Torre del Greco, and had a very good career, primarily in Italy, although he did sing in Portugal and Latin America. He recorded, in addition to standards form the lyric tenor repertoire, a number of Neapolitan songs, in which he excelled. "Dicitencello Vuie" is certainly one of the most popular of all. Here are the lyrics and a translation: Dicitencello a 'sta cumpagna vosta ch'aggio perduto 'o suonno e 'a fantasia ca 'a penzo sempre. Che é tutta 'a vita mia i' nce 'o vvulesse dicere, ma nun nce 'o ssaccio di!
A' voglio bbene, A' voglio bbene assaie, Dicitencello, vuie ca nun m' 'a scordo maie! E''na passiona... cchiù forte 'e 'na catena, ca me turmenta ll'anema e nun me fa campá.
'Na lacrema lucente v' è caduta... Diciteme 'nu poco a che penzate... Cu' st'uocchie doce vuie sola me guardate... Levámmece 'sta maschera, dicimmo 'a veritá.
Te voglio bbene, te voglio bbene assaie si' ttu chesta catena ca nun se spezza maie! Suonno gentile, suspiro mio carnale te cerco comm'all'aria e nun me fa campá!
Tell your friend that I have lost sleep and even fantasy. That I frequently think of her; Because she is my life. I've wanted to tell her but don't know how to say it!
I love her! I care for her so very much You tell her that I cannot forget her! The passion I feel... is stronger than a chain that torments my soul and makes it impossible for me to live.
Just tell her she's like roses in May, that she is more beautiful than a sunny day... From her lips that are fresher than violets I just want to hear that she's in love with me!
I saw a shining tear. Tell me a little what your thinking! Those sweet eyes are looking only at me. let's take off our masks, and tell the truth.
I love you, I want you so very much May this bond between us Never break!
Gentle sleep ... My carnal sigh... I seek you like air I can't live without you!
