This short film was made in 2000 to show the unique position of the bicycle ("fiets") as means of transport in Dutch transport policies. It shows how cycling is important in everyday life. In this film you see shots of Houten, a new town with a unique traffic infrastructure which strongly encourages the use of bicycles and which was awarded by the Dutch Cyclist Union as Cycle Town of the year 2008. Since the making of the film the city centre was reconstructed, with excellent parking facilities at the train station, called "Fietstransferium". Also shots are made in the city centre of Utrecht, which is currently under construction to make in more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. The call for 20.000 bikeracks is still urgent today, but only a matter of time. In the coming years these parkings will be made. At last the "Super cycle routes" are addressed to provide quick connections between suburbs and economic hubs.

Although this film is not new, it shows that the Netherlands have a tradition to have cycling as an integrated part of their transport policies.
