One of the most impressive documentary ever made. You live the facts that happened with the disgregation of Yugoslavia as if you were there. The war in Bosnia and the siege of Sarajevo are presented in a way that perhaps only BBC can do. A masterpiece. And a must, if you want to understand how things were and are in the Balcans.

These translations of the interviews are so altered it's ridiculous!!!  Yes, this is film is a true masterpiece, but of the propaganda and rewriting history! Here are the translations of some of the sequences of what they’ve really said (note how some are cut out of the context completely): 6:54 - in Serbian “U tim okolnostima je svaka pojava bilo koje srpske licnosti koji bi otvoreno dao za pravo srpskom narodu na Kosovu da mora biti zasticen, da mora biti ravnopravan, da ne mogu da se siluju devojcice, da ne mogu da se pale kuce, da ne mogu da se ruse groblja, morao je eksplozivno da dobije...” Translation in English:  “… In that circumstances, any appearance of any Serbian figure who would openly give the right to the Serbian people in Kosovo that they must be protected, that they must be equal, that young girls must not be raped, that houses must not be burned, that graveyards must not be ruined, he (the figure) had to abruptly get...  “ What they’ve put as a translation:  “The first Serb politician to stand up and say that we must stop the oppression of Serbs in Kosovo, that women were being raped, houses burned, graves desecrated... This was the way on the top “   7:56 - in Serbian “Ja sam smatrala da treba da govori konstruktivno, da pruzi podrsku Srbima koja im i pripada...” Translation in English:  “I considered that he should speak constructively, to provide the support to the Serbs which they deserved... “ What they’ve put as a translation:  “I said the time had come to back the Kosovo Serbs“   13:09 of course, in Serbian  – “Ne sme niko da vas bije! Ne sme niko da bije” Translation in English: ”No one is allowed to beat you! No one is allowed to beat” What they’ve put as a translation:  “You will not be beaten again!“     15:14 in Serbian  – “Ja sam pokusao da se pitam na tom nastanku, ”Cekaj, ako tako idemo, sta ce od otadzbine ostati?”” Translation in English: ”I was trying to ask myself on that meeting, “Wait, if we go this way, what will remain of the homeland?”” What they’ve put as a translation:  “I asked him, “If you go on like this, what will become of our country?” “   21:00 in Serbian  – “Zaustavicemo kontra-revoluciju na Kosovu i sprovescemo promene u politickom sistemu koje ce omoguciti da Srbija ostvaruje ovlascenja republike na celoj svojoj teritoriji.” Translation in English: ”We will stop the counter-revolution in Kosovo and we will reform the political system so that Serbia can regain authorities of the republic on its whole territory.” What they’ve put as a translation:  “We will stop the counter-revolution in Kosovo. We’ll reform the political system. Serbia will regain its rightful territory. “ – and what do they want you to think about the “rightful territory”?   26:02 in Serbian  – “... u tom stavu je bilo moje razmisljanje da mi ne treba da to sakrijemo od naroda sta se tamo govori u drugoj republici” Translation in English: ”... in such attitude was my thinking that we should not hide from the people what is being talked about there in another republic”  What they’ve put as a translation:  “I decided to show our Serbi viewers what was going on in the Republic of Slovenia“- this is one of the numerous mentioning of Serbs, Croats and other ethnics when the interviewed said just “the people”.   26:36 in Serbian  – “... da je poceo protesni miting u studentskom gradu...” Translation in English: ”... that the protest rally has began at the university...”  What they’ve put as a translation:  “They told me Serb protesters were gathering at the university“ - again no one mentioned Serbs   28:02 in Serbian  – “Cak i onda kad je Jovic rekao “Mi ne mozemo, ako podnesu ostavke Morina I Sukrija, mi ne mozemo smiriti miting, mi ne mozemo drzati pod kontrolom...”” Translation in English: ”Even when Jovic said “We can’t, if Morina and Sukrija resign, we can’t calm down the rally, we can’t control them...””  What they’ve put as a translation:  “He said, “If you don’t give us the powers we want, we won’t be responsible for the actions of the crowd“” – well as you can see this one has been constructed completely   29:07 in Serbian  – “Ja sam tada rekao predsenistvu sledece: Milion ljudi trazi - niko od nas nema prava da to ignorise. Bez obzira na to sto smo ljuti...” Translation in English: ”Then I’ve told to the Presidency: A million people are asking for it - none of us has the right to ignore it. Regardless of if we are angry...”  What they’ve put as a translation:  “I told the Party Council: A million people can’t be ignored, even if the Serbs set it up“ - WHAT THE FUQ WITH THE “even if the Serbs set it up”???   29:49 in Serbian  – “Nema te cene i nema te sile koja moze pokolebati rukovodjstvo Srbije i gradjane Srbije u borbi za pravedne ciljeve” Translation in English: ”There is no price and there is no force that can unhinge the Serbian government and the Serbian citizens in the fight for the righteous goals” What they’ve put as a translation:  “No force on earth can stop the people of Serbia. People of Serbia – we’ll fight for our cause – and win“ – Again COMPLETELY constructed translation   35:04 in Serbian  – “... ono je shvatilo da mi idemo direknto na udar u Sloveniji...” Translation in English: “... it (don’t know what) has figure out that we are directly going to strike in Slovenia (again what?)...” - notice how nothing could be understood from this cut, they just cut it out of context to put into the subtitles what they wanted to be said What they’ve put as a translation:  “They thought we would topple them“   38:58 in Serbian  – “Rekao sam im kategoricki da smo mi odgovorni kao vrhovni oruzanih snaga da upotrebimo sva sredstva koja nam stoje na raspolaganju da to ne dozvolimo...” Translation in English: “I’ve told them categorically that we are responsible as the head of the armed forces to use all the means that are at our disposal to prevent that (again don’t know what)” What they’ve put as a translation:  “I told Kucan that we would us all means to stop them“   42:31 in Serbian  – “Desilo se stvarno da brojni njihovi amadmani su odbijani” Translation in English: “It really happened that numbers of their amendments were rejected” What they’ve put as a translation:  “Of course, we rejected their amendments“   43:01 in Croatian (which is basically and grammatically completely the same language as Sebian, Bosnian and Montenegrin) – “Vidio sam sa koliko strasti je upravo to bilo izbacivano iz predloga dokumenta, sa zestokim aplauzima...” Translation in English: “I’ve seen with how much passion exactly that (What? He is most definitely talking about something specifically) had been rejected from the document proposal, with wild applauses...” What they’ve put as a translation:  “The Serbs loved it. Every time they voted the Slovenes down there was a wild applause” – and again a strong separation by nationality   43:11 in Croatian - “... a svi amadmani da budu ta osnova za diskusiju, sa daleko vise tolerancije medjusobne i promisljanja sto nam je ciniti za revitalizaciju Saveza Komunista Jugoslavije...” Translation in English: “... and all the amendments to be that basis for the discussion, with much more mutual tolerance and deliberation what to do for the revitalization of the League of Communists of Yugoslavia ...” – again out of context completely What they’ve put as a translation:  “Please, we need some discussion. Let’s show some tolerance. What is at stake is the Communist Party of Yugoslavia“   44:11 in Serbian  - “... na to su trebali racunati odmah, a ne ovde nas ucenjivati. Ja predlazem da se taj njihov ultimativni stav ne prihvati, a oni nek izvole, nek napuste, nek nas puste primitivce da organizujemo ovu partiju...” Translation in English: “... they should have counted on it right away, not to blackmail us here. I suggest their ultimatum-attitude to be rejected, and they are free, let them go, let them let us primitives to organize this party” What they’ve put as a translation:  “The Slovenes are asking too much. We won’t have their ultimatums. They should leave it to us primitives. We’ll run the party“- again completely different   45:38 in Serbian  - “Oni su cak tog jutra otkazali i hotele. Posto su prakticni Slovenci, da ne bi platili jos jednu noc, ujutru su rano otkazali i sklonili prtljag tamo po recepciji...” Translation in English: “They’ve even checked out of the hotel that morning. Because they’re practical Slovenians, so that they would not pay for one more night, early in the morning they’ve checked out and moved the baggage there to the reception...” What they’ve put as a translation:  “They’d checked out of their hotels. Those stingy Slovenes saved a night’s bill. They’d left their bags at reception “ – guess you didn’t get what he said actually, instead you got that he hates Slovenes   NOW IMAGINE HOW MUCH EVERYTHING ELSE HAS BEEN ALTERED IN THIS “DOCUMENTARY”!!! Of course they have chosen the sections that suite them the best to prove what they want, and of course they’ve missed out all the facts that don’t suite them, e.g. for that footage of Martin Spegelj on the hidden camera, where he said who had backed them up in arms (turns out NATO and US), and what do they plan to do – to completely clear the Knin and Slavonia out of Serbs – ethnic cleansing. Did they even tell that the Croat government later approved the authenticity of the footage? Now imagine how do they alter the information in today’s crisis’ in Ukraine, Syria, Iraq... Please don’t watch BBC or corporate media on topics like these. Their purpose is to make you think what they need you to think and to make you feel they want you to feel, to support wars, laws restricting your freedoms, and they are such experts in that. Please search for the truth.

+idupizdu Thank you for the translations. I agree with you that this is delicate and the proper words are necessary. It turns out that Naser Oric was just arrested by the Swiss for war crimes. It saddens me what happened to Yugoslavia. It was a propaganda campaign and then a military one by outside forces simply for money and political power. It was indeed those outside forces that saw an opportunity after Tito died, to take Yugoslavia and make it theirs without any thought what it would do to the people.

“Nationalism does nothing but teach you to hate people you never met, and to take pride in accomplishments you had no part in.” Nationalism is for people without any self-worth, people without any self-esteem. They hope that by embracing nationalism they'll fill the void in their soul where self-esteem is supposed to live. They can not take pride in themselves so they become parasites on the historic glory of other people. But they have no right to claim any such glory, they took no part in it. Nationalists are among the most pathetic people on this planet, the most undignified parasites around.

More like nationalism gives people an identity which thereby allows them to form democratic nation-states (which make up the entirety of Europe). Nationalism is a useful, unifying tool and a death-sentence to large multinational states and empires that allways inevitably collapse.

+Karl Rutkowski All struggles against oppresion are not motivated by nationalism. You make it seem like fighting against violent nationalism requires nationalism. Do you think every person fighting against the nazis did it because of some kind of nationalist idea? On your point "Not so bad when you consider that historically it pushed back against oppressive empires that commit ethnic genocide." Well consider Yugoslavia, the Serbs were highly nationalistic and committed horrible crimes of ethnic genocide. I'd say that the point you was trying to make is the very opposite of reality.

Yeah, Borise, I came here to see (for the first time) whether it's full-on (anti-Serbian) propaganda, or if some things - some truths - can be discerned when watching... The thing is, like it says in the video description, "if you want to understand how things were and are in the [Balkans]", nobody cares about what is going on in the world - let alone Balkans - any more. Constant news sources and readily-available "information" is all which people turn to, in order to know and rarely if ever does any thought go into it. For example, the recent so-called "revolution" in Libya, people in the know - knew, immediately, how it's another war-on-profit, war-for-oil, while the majority watched the news reports about "evil Gaddafi's dictatorship comes to an end", heh.

Hehe, @1bodulac, I saw the same thing, "Slavs". :)) Btw., the problem isn't that brothers fought each other (well, as human nature goes - and, other, civil wars, too), issue is: 1) People will, still, today, fight each other - predominantly the (spiritually) weaker sides - that is to say, people who are not Serbian, unfortunately and: 2) The war(s) are classified as what, exactly?! We had a series of civil wars, in rapid succession - plus, the illegal (!) NATO incursions, numerous ones - plus, the threat of Albania (terrorist), the way that the US Congress gets flooded by Albanian (drug and other) lobbying. ^^ How many people are aware of The Green Transverse or “Green Corridor” - the so-called (locally) green transversal... A Muslim gateway into Europe. I won't go into details, but "evil dictator, Slobodan Milosevic" seems like something that would sell in the 60s, the 80s, yet... Their formula seems to be working, even today, meh.

Actually, the United States and Germany were the ones who were really working hard behind the scenes to dismember Yugoslavia and to try and integrate its pieces into the Western system of geopolitical influence through NATO and the European Community (Now, the European Union).

I see that there are a lot of conspiracy theories in the comment section pushed by Serbs and sheep that believe them. I'll make it simple.
