This Loopy World Part 5/5
Excerpt from Show Program:
Loops are all around us. They exist in a variety of forms
that we often don't even acknowledge. For example, the
"simple" cycle of waking up, going to work and returning
to bed is a loop-based process. You can learn a lot
from examining these processes. Studying loops can
help us realize when events in life have become mundane,
provide us with new methods for making decisions
and most importantly, give insight into new ways of
looking at the surrounding world.
I have spent the past 8 months looking at loops and
how they impact different ideas, concepts and processes.
There are countless examples in music, philosophy,
religion, art, engineering, science, pop culture and
day-to-day life. They have provided me with a new lens
through which I examine the world. I now approach
even the simplest daily tasks differently and the effect on
my life has been profound.
The musical, audio and visual works here represent the
beginning of my exploration of loops and loop-based
processes (repetitive tasks that are implemented over
and over again to achieve some result). All of the compositions
were created using loop-based processes.
These processes required me to put myself under the
same set of conditions every time I composed a piece. In
addition, many of the pieces use loops as a means for
audio and visual creation. I look forward to delving
futher into the land of loops as I experience this loopy
I hope you enjoy the show.
