I can never understand why some of the comments on this page are always engaging in some type of competition.  Who's better? Pavarotti, Placido?  They are great tenors, they have different voices, they have different octave and range.  What I'm trying to say is that they are all great singers, it's a matter of personal choice of which song or which aria you prefer one singer to the other.  Either way, you can't go wrong.  Listen to them and enjoy it.   Don't get involved in the frivalty of who is better or who can outdo who, that's not what opera singing is about.

Когда я был ребёнком, в России очень любили слушать Лучано, но я не понимал тогда - почему. Сейчас мне 36 лет и, слушая ЭТО у меня мурашки по спине. Это лучшее, что я слышал в своей жизни.

Rudy Pontrandolfo Let me correct a little your translation of Said Magomedov's words: When I was a kid, lots of people in Russia loved to listen to Luciano, then I didn't understand why. Now I'm 36 years old and listening to this sends shivers down my spine. This is the best song that I've ever happened to listen to in my life.

"Это лучшее, что я слышал в своей жизни." I second that! I'm Russian, born and raised and I can assure you this absolute genius is extremely popular here (I reckon just like in the rest of the world) and in my judgement he is an absolute genius, second to none, I give you that! Speaking of this song, I've heard a few other versions of it (by Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo) and to me, this one is the best!
