The precedent for this shelter is an old cabin in the White Mountains of New Hampshire where the mathematician Norbert Wiener, the "father of cybernetics", worked during the summers. Local granite fieldstones form the two structural walls, whose shape echoes the water pathways of the nearby wetlands. A south-facing granite Trombe wall provides both thermal mass for cool weather and support for the mathematicians chalkboard.
