Timing is everything, and for the past couple weeks our staff and volunteers have had to inform people that the next spay/neuter trip for their pets is on September 11th. Over and over again. And it makes one a little sore to relive pain and loss. But within the soreness is an opportunity to remember that 9/11 also is a time of human kindness and giving. So we offer to everyone this tribute, and we chose to display our respect for those who give, gave, and lost by tying memorial ribbons and sending messages with the approximately 70 pet dogs and cats who went to be fixed (plus a second big load from our trap-neuter-return coordinator making about 90 dogs and cats fixed TODAY! We keep BUSY :)...their families gave by committing to our work of ending the overpopulation of pets...ending euthanasia. And we give special honor to the loyal canines, the hundreds who came to help during and after 9/11, for, after all, we are an animal welfare organization, and the human-animal bond is a very special relationship. So here is our tribute to humans and to the dogs who gave through our own work at Haywood Spay/Neuter. A special thank you to our primary spay/neuter partner Asheville Humane Alliance for all they give and all their kindness.
