While at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Intramural Research Program (IRP), Markus Heilig, M.D., Ph.D., and his team pursued personalized medicine through the study of genes that influence alcohol addiction. Dr. Heilig was Clinical Director and Chief of the Laboratory of Clinical and Translational Studies (LCTS) at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) and Clinical Director at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). He has since transitioned to a new role at another institution.
