Clinical and basic scientists work together to understand and ultimately cure diseases. Patients and families often are relieved to have a diagnosis that explains their symptoms, but an accurate diagnosis also helps the scientists study the disease. Dr. Michael Geschwind and Dr. Stanley Prusiner share their work on prion disease as a model to hopefully find cures for not only Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease but also Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia and Parkinson's disease.
