via Pixelpipe Update..I have picked the wrong drive for this task, as the wd 1tb is not sata with a usb adapter on it, rather, usb adapter soldered onto the drive..owell..concept is the same, and I can use a 1tb usb drive for backups... (still only paid $55 for it) Process is as follows: Boot from Ubuntu (Debian) live CD disk Add root sudo passwd root apt-get install gddrescue locate existing source drive ls /dev/sd* (note value probably sda) plug in 1tb passport usb drive locate passport usb drive ls /dev/sd* (note new value sdb) issue ddrescue command ddrescue /dev/sda /dev/sdb When finished (2 to 3 hours), use gparted to expand the passport to 1tb partition. Open passport drive, remove from case, swap into EEE Hopefully bootup as normal but with 1tb now instead of 160gb.
