Over the winter of 2009/2010, I was in a band called ORNGE. We wrote a lot of stuff but we only recorded three songs before the band broke up. However I still love the music that we made and I think the world should hear it.
Hello Nancy started as a random improvisational jam that the band played shortly after getting together. That jam became the outro of the song, and we took a similar song that I had penned while in a previous band and used it as the main body of the song. It's about a young girl growing up on a space station who isn't ready to venture outside into the emptiness of space. I gave the lead vocals to Chris and he sings his interpretation of my original melodies. Chris and I collaborated on the bridge and added a fourth verse. Ivan and I added the layers of backing vocals you hear.
The outro of the song could be a song in itself. We spent more time working on and tweaking just the recording of this outro than any other single piece of music we worked out. It was all planned out to the letter. There are four guitars, a bass solo by Ivan, a guitar solo by me, a banjo, a synthesizer and a white noise track. The drums took at least five takes to get right.
