The Stinson L-5 Sentinel on display at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center is the first production model ever built. L-5s were used during WWII for a variety of missions. The Museum's L-5 has the Brodie System installed, which allowed for the launch and recovery of the aircraft via a cable system along the side of a ship without using any portion of the deck. The Brodie System was briefly operational toward the end of the war in the Pacific, and made a notable contribution leading up to the attack on Okinawa.
