I'm Kelly Temple, General Manager of Eastside Kia. One of the questions that I'm frequently asked is why should a person purchase a PRE-OWNED VEHICLE FROM A CAR DEALERSHIP...instead of just buying privately.
COMMON REASONS THAT PEOPLE BUY PRIVATELY
I think that there are a few primary reasons why consumers purchase privately:
1. They feel that might get better pricing...primarily because they won't have to pay GST
2. They don't like the hassle of dealing with the stereo-typed "Used car salesman" that they don't trust.
Well, today I wanted to take a few moments give consumers some really good reasons why they should consider buying their next pre-owned vehicle from a car dealership...Some points you should consider...
WHY BUY FROM A BRANDED DEALER:
1. Better selection in just one spot
a. When you buy privately, you have to drive all over the city.
b. For example: when we shot this video, we had 12 pre-owned Sportage from 2006-2012's...
c. And recently we had over 40 pre-owned SUV's in stock which included Kia and all makes & models.
2. And...better selection leads to better pricing.
a. Reality is consumers are just like car dealers...everyone wants maximum value for the vehicle when they sell it.
b. But...dealers compete with other dealers. This creates a competitive market...driving prices down...which is great for the consumer.
3. TRADE IN
a. As well, at a dealership, you can trade in your existing vehicle...no matter how old or rough shape.
b. And when you do, you only pay GST on the difference of the selling price.
A part from selection and price, there are a lot of other reasons that it is to a persons advantage to purchase from a dealership...things like "PEACE OF MIND"....
4. SAFETY INSPECTION
a. All dealers are required by Alberta law to perform a safety inspection on every vehicle we sell.
b. I'm holding a copy of it here...
i. 64 inspection points marked compliant or non-compliant -- all safety related to your vehicle.
ii. A spot where a licensed journeyman technician must sign who has performed the inspection...along with his Alberta certificate number. In essence, they are putting their reputation and livelihood on the line stating this report is accurate.
iii. And there is a place where you the purchases will sign your name.
iv. This happens with every sale...you don't have to go out and pay to have some company do this for you.
5. CAR PROOF
a. And, most dealers today provide their customers will what is called a CAR-PROOF.
b. This document discloses to their customer all kinds of useful information: What province it's been registered in and if it has been in any accidents.
a. Dealers are also responsible under the law to ensure that your vehicle is lien free when you purchased it.
b. We're currently dealing with a person who purchased a vehicle privately...who had a loan on the vehicle. Unfortunately, the seller didn't pay off the lien on the vehicle, creating a legal nightmare for the customer.
7. CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED PROGRAM
a. And most manufacturers today have what is called a CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED PROGRAM which provides numerous benefits to consumers such as:
i. EXTENDING the length of your warranty
ii. Providing EXTREMELY LOW INTEREST RATES.
iii. Example: Kia has a program that offer interest on a pre-owned Kia starting as low as 0.9%
8. IN HOUSE FINANCING
a. And that's another great reason...convenience. Everything happens at one stop:

YOU SEE...one of the real benefits from buying from a branded dealership is SERVICE...and TRUST.
You know that after you buy...that dealership will still be there to help take care of you in the future.
So when it comes to purchasing your pre-owned vehicle, give some thought to purchasing from a branded dealer.
