A deadly railroad crossing crash in Trenton, Missouri sheds light on the thousands of unguarded railroad crossings in Missouri and tens of thousands unguarded crossings across the country.

Communities beg the railroad companies to make their crossings safer, but companies like Union Pacific, Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) and refuse to do so, saying its up to the State or local government to install warning lights and gates.

Why should small towns like Trenton, Missouri bail out large railroad companies? Would your city government pay for warning lights at your driveway or parking lot? Why should the railroad companies get special treatment? Railroad companies should be held responsible when their crossings are not safe.
