Schoolteacher James Addlespurger, with briefcase, is walked towards the group of six teenagers before one punches him, knocking him unconscious.

WATCH a man minding his own business punched and knocked out by a teenager who smiled about his unprovoked attack.

The random attack on James Addlespurger, a 50-year-old schoolteacher, was caught on security camera video, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

Addlespurger was walking down an alley in Pittsburgh, near the Benedum Centre, when he went past a group of six teenagers. One for no reason one of the teens punched Addlespurger as he walked by.

The blow knocked Addlespurger to the ground and he hit his head on a curb, rendering him unconscious.

All six teens just kept walking as if nothing happened, though the alleged assailant briefly turned around to look at his victim and appeared to smile.

Police today arrested a 15-year-old boy, a student at the city's Letsche alternative school, for the vicious assault after the publication of the video. He was charged with simple assault.

"It appears to be a random act, but this juvenile has a track record, already has, for example, a probation officer," Mayor Luke Ravenstahl's spokeswoman, Joanna Doven told the newspaper.

Addlespurger, who teaches at Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises.
